Fort Worth Dallas Fort Worth/Dallas -- Texas Ballet Theater (formerly Fort Worth Dallas Ballet) today announced the creation of the Texas Ballet Theater Advisory Committee, members of which will function as honorary ambassadors and advisors for the Company. Ben Stevenson, the Company's new artistic director, has recruited some of the most famous names in ballet and theater. The new Texas Ballet Theater Advisory Committee will elevate the notoriety of the company to a level not previously seen in North Texas, and exemplifies the vision, dedication and celebrity that Mr. Stevenson brings to North Texas. The Dallas Center for the Performing Arts Foundation and Texas Ballet Theater (formerly Fort Worth Dallas Ballet) announced today an unprecedented $1.25 million challenge grant from Fort Worth-based Once Upon A Time Foundation. The challenge grant is designed to raise $1 million in gifts from Dallas individuals and organizations to support performances by Texas Ballet Theater during the next two years and, as such, raise $1.25 million to help design and construct the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts. For each dollar raised in Dallas for Texas Ballet Theater productions, the Foundation will donate $1.25 to the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts. In early 2002, the Fort Worth and Dallas organizations began to move in earnest toward becoming a single entity with one governing board of directors. Leadership from both organizations, working with the consultation of Booz-Allen-Hamilton, began to construct a plan to merge the two corporations. In April of 2003, the Fort Worth Dallas Ballet Association voted to merge with the Dallas Supporters, and in early May 2003, the Dallas Supporters confirmed that merger. The result has been the creation of Texas Ballet Theater (formerly Fort Worth Dallas Ballet) presents its season-opening production of Ben Stevenson's Coppélia at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth on Friday and Saturday, October 3 and 4 at 8:00 P.M., with a Sunday matinee performance on October 5, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. Ballet's greatest comedy, Ben Stevenson’s Coppélia has a particularly remarkable comedic touch, as those who saw his Cinderella last spring can attest. With music by Léo Delibes, masterfully played by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Texas Ballet Theater music director, Jack Buckhannan, and costumes designed by Tony Award-winning designer, Desmond Heeley, this production is sure to please audiences of all ages from across north Texas.
